As mentioned in one of my previous blogs, I absolutely love Christmas!!! It is one of my favorite times of the year, if not my most favorite. I cant help getting excited about giving and receiving, parties, food, Christmas music, etc, etc. Now most conservative and fundamental Christians are having a hard time with all of this political correctness that is going on. It’s the holidays not Christmas and all that crap. At first it made me mad as well, but then I got to thinking about it. Christmas is Jesus and there is no way that anyone could take that away. That is the fact of the matter. His birth was foretold for thousands of years. He is the pinnacle of mankind and history. Even when people try to get away from the language of Christmas they cant. They can’t change all the songs, all the sayings, and most importantly they cannot change Jesus.
David so eloquently writes this in Psalm 111:9He provided redemption for his people;
he ordained his covenant forever—
holy and awesome is his name.
Some would say that this could be a Messianic allusion but in context David is praising the Lord for being faithful. But this really stirs my affections for Jesus at this time of the year. He is the redemption that was provided for us, the fulfillment of the covenant. The messiah foretold came to us under the most unusual of circumstances to bring hope, peace, mercy, grace, joy, and most importantly salvation. How awesome is that?? Christmas is a time of redemption. It is an integral part in the timeless story of God the Father’s relentless pursuit of his people to be in a right and holy covenant with him.
So when this time of year comes I urge you to take a step back and think, “This is about my redemption from sin, death, and hell. Praise be to God!” God the Father gloriously and unusually provided the means of salvation through a virgin girl, her carpenter husband, and a baby who do not receive the proper birth due him. It is so amazing to think that before time began God had this plan of redemption decided for you and for me. How marvelous!!! I pray you find the redemption this season. Merry Christmas!!!
